About staying in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is small — 7 kilometres — and its hotels sort themselves north to south. The north, around the town and Playa Norte, holds almost everything: the calm-water beach that made the island famous, the boutique hotels, the pedestrian streets off Avenida Hidalgo. Toward the island's middle and the Makax lagoon come quieter options, and in the south, near Punta Sur, a few hotels watch the sunrise from the cliffs. Our 2026 scans logged 22 hotels with a real price: from US$50 a night and a typical rate of about US$113. Honestly: the island changes character by the clock — by day it absorbs waves of Cancún day-trippers and golf carts jam the town; after five, when the last full ferry leaves, the calm returns. Sleeping here means keeping the best part.

Isla Mujeres hotel FAQs

Where should I stay on Isla Mujeres?

In the north, near Playa Norte, for most people: the swimmable beach, restaurants and ferry are all on foot. The town is lively at night — ask for an interior room if noise bothers you. The southern end gives sunrises and silence in exchange for a golf cart or taxi for everything.

When is it cheapest?

September and October, the Caribbean low season: rain, heat and real discounts. High season runs December to April. Whale-shark season — June to September — fills the tour boats more than the hotels. Midweek always beats weekends, when Cancún crosses over in force.

How do I get to the island?

By ferry from Cancún: Puerto Juárez has the most frequent sailings — a 20-minute crossing at about MX$270-330 round trip — plus pricier departures from the Hotel Zone. On the island you walk, pedal or rent a golf cart; taxis are short and everywhere.

What should I know before going?

That Playa Norte is the jewel and fills accordingly: early morning or sunset it becomes another beach. Golf carts need reserving on busy dates — about US$50-70 a day. The east side has surf and currents: admire it, do not swim it. And the last ferry back shapes your evening: check the timetable.
