Near the Poliforum for a congress or expo — you walk across and skip the transfers. In the Centro, by the Arco and Calle Madero, for price, restaurants and the Zona Piel on foot. The stadium and airport strips only make sense with a very early flight or a match ticket.
When is it cheapest, and when impossible?
The Feria de León, all of January, and the SAPICA shoe fairs sell the city out and send rates flying — book far ahead or sleep in Silao or Guanajuato. Outside those peaks, weekends and the rainy summer bring the best prices.
How do I get from the airport?
Bajío airport (BJX) sits in Silao, 20-30 minutes from central León; a taxi runs about MX$350-500. The bus terminal links to Mexico City in around 4.5-5 hours and Guadalajara in 3. The city has an articulated-bus network, but with luggage the ride-hailing app wins.
What should I know before going?
That if leather is the mission, the Zona Piel — opposite the bus terminal — packs hundreds of shops and prices are negotiable; Saturdays get crowded. And that León is an excellent base for the rest of Guanajuato state: the capital 45 minutes away, San Miguel ninety, on good roads.
