About staying in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is chosen neighbourhood by neighbourhood. The Zona Romántica — old Vallarta, south of the Cuale river — is the crowd favourite: cobbled streets, Los Muertos beach, hundreds of restaurants, and Mexico's most open LGBTQ+ scene. The Centro and the Malecón are a stroll away. To the north, the Hotel Zone and Marina Vallarta line up the big resorts, many all-inclusive, near the airport. Conchas Chinas, to the south, hides hillside hotels with the best views. Our 2026 scans logged 90 hotels with a real price: from US$51 a night and a typical rate of about US$122 — Vallarta is not a budget destination, but it delivers. Honestly: from August to October the humid heat bears down and afternoons bring heavy rain; in exchange, that is when prices genuinely drop.
Puerto Vallarta hotel FAQs
Where should I stay in Puerto Vallarta?
In the Zona Romántica if you want to live the city: beach, restaurants and nightlife on foot. The Hotel Zone and Marina resorts suit a pool-and-all-inclusive holiday, accepting taxis to go out. Conchas Chinas has the views. The Centro is a fair middle ground with the Malecón at the door.
When is Puerto Vallarta cheapest?
August to October: humid, hot, with heavy afternoon rain, but carrying the year's best discounts. High season runs November to April — nearly perfect dry weather — peaking at Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. May to July sits in between: hot, with still-reasonable prices.
How do I get from the airport?
The airport is inside the city: 10 minutes to the Marina, 20-30 to the Zona Romántica. Official airport taxis charge fixed zone rates of about MX$400-600; cross the pedestrian bridge and app rides or street taxis cost noticeably less. Very cheap local buses pass as well.
What should I know before booking?
That geography rules here: the city stretches many kilometres along the coast, and sleeping in a northern resort means a 20-40 minute taxi to dinner in the Romántica. The bay's water is calm but the beaches are narrow; if endless sand is the goal, Nuevo Vallarta to the north may fit better.
