About staying in Heroica Guaymas
Guaymas is really two places, and it matters which one you book. The port city — the old centre, Malecón Malpica, the municipal market, the San Fernando cathedral — runs on fishing, shipyards and the navy, and its hotels are plain, practical rooms for work trips, highway stops and early ferry departures. San Carlos, twenty minutes northwest, is the holiday half: a sheltered bay, marinas, Cerro Tetakawi and pools facing the water. Our 2026 scans found only three hotels here with a live price: from US$74 a night, with a typical rate of around US$92. Supply is thin, so book ahead.

Which area should I stay in?
It depends why you came. For business, a ferry sailing or a break on the Federal 15, the centre and the port strip put you near everything and cost less. For beach, pool and bay views, San Carlos — about 20 km out — is the actual resort area. Miramar and Bacochibampo sit in between: an unpretentious city beach minutes from downtown.
When are rooms cheapest?
Summer, May to September, is low season: around 40°C, heavy Gulf humidity and a real storm risk in August and September, but rates soften. Winter, December to April, behaves like high season because of the long-stay visitors from the US and Canada in San Carlos. Semana Santa and the summer fishing tournaments fill the bay for a few days at a time.
How do I get there and get around without a car?
Most travellers fly into Hermosillo and drive an hour and a half down the Federal 15 toll road; the local airport has very few flights. Buses run often from Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregón, Navojoa and Nogales. Without a car you rely on slow, cheap city buses and taxis at roughly MX$80-150 for short hops — workable downtown, awkward for San Carlos.
Is Guaymas a good base for the ferry to Baja California Sur?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest reasons to sleep in the port at all. The ferry to Santa Rosalía leaves from the Guaymas maritime terminal, with only a few sailings a week and times that shift with the season and the weather. Confirm the departure before booking, stay downtown to avoid a pre-dawn drive, and check reception hours.
