Where should I stay in Irapuato?
Without a car, the Centro: hotels around the Jardín Hidalgo put you within walking distance of cheap kitchens, the market and the old churches, and that is where the cheap end of our scans sits. On a work trip, the Boulevard Díaz Ordaz corridor has the chains with parking and breakfast. For a 7am plant start or an early motorway run, sleep near the highway exits.
When is it cheapest, and when does the city fill up?

How do I get there and get around?
The easiest way in is Bajío airport (BJX) at Silao, some 40 km away: 35-45 minutes by motorway, with an authorised taxi in the order of MX$800-1,000, or a rental car. By bus, the Central de Autobuses runs frequently to León, Guanajuato, Celaya and Querétaro. In town, city buses cost around MX$12, taxis and ride apps MX$60-120.
Is it worth an extra day for the strawberries?
Yes, with expectations managed. Irapuato is Mexico's strawberry capital and it shows: in season, roadside stands and the markets sell them with cream, candied and preserved, at close to grower prices. That, plus the Centro — Jardín Hidalgo, Templo del Hospitalito, the Soledad parish church — fills one long afternoon. Beyond that, Guanajuato city is an hour away.
