Hotels in Playa Del Carmen

One or two blocks off Quinta Avenida gives you everything on foot without sleeping on top of the party; between Calle 20 and 40 is calmer than the centre. Playacar is the resort option with a groomed beach. West of Highway 307 is the cheapest, but plan on walking or a taxi to reach the sea.

September and October are the cheapest months: rain, heat and hurricane risk, but real discounts. High season runs December to March, peaking at Christmas-New Year and Holy Week. July and August stay mid-priced despite the heat because European and Mexican holidays land then.

Playa has no airport of its own; you arrive via Cancún, 45-60 minutes away. The ADO bus leaves straight from the terminals for about MX$250; a private transfer runs around US$50-70 per vehicle. Colectivos are cheaper but awkward with luggage. Do not get into an airport taxi without agreeing the fare first.

From May to October sargassum arrives in waves: some weeks the beach is clean, others it wakes up covered and smelly. Playacar's resorts rake their stretch daily. If the sea is your priority in those months, check webcams and recent reports before booking, or plan cenotes and Cozumel as a fallback.
