The shower was decent size and very luxury. Very clean and nice view to the front. It was our first time there. There was breakfast and can an expreso coffee machine. I recommend staying there if you're traveling. The price was under 200 which is a decent price for two beds and breakfast.
I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel in December 2021, and I was thoroughly impressed by its impeccable cleanliness and meticulous organization. The lobby was bright and welcoming, and my room was spacious, well-appointed, and spotless. The friendly staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort, making me feel safe and valued throughout my stay. They provided excellent recommendations for local dining and attractions, which added to my overall experience. I truly enjoyed my time at this hotel, and I will undoubtedly return whenever I have business to attend to in Piedras Negras.
I had great service during my stay. I was not able to have breakfast on account of me waking up super late (which I am not mad at all about 😅). The curtain set up in my room was so good that I never realized the sun was out and it was 11:45am 😊. The room and bathroom were both nice and clean, the mattress a little too firm for my liking but that’s totally okay (my body obviously had no complaints 😴😴😅). I was also incredibly pleased that they have their check-ins until 12am, I believe it starts at 3pm to 12am.
Planning your trip to Piedras Negras
When to go
The kind stretches are March to May and October to November: days of 25-32°C, cool nights and dry air. That's when walking the downtown grid, sitting on the Plaza de Armas or crossing the bridge on foot is genuinely pleasant rather than an endurance test.
Summer is hard. From June to September the city passes 38°C regularly and 42°C isn't rare. Humidity is low, but the sun is relentless and the centre offers little shade. Air conditioning and a pool stop being luxuries; plan your errands early and pick life back up after seven in the evening.
Winter is deceptive. You can get a 20°C afternoon and then a norte that drops the temperature close to freezing with steady wind and the odd frost. Pack layers even in December, and check the forecast before setting off down Highway 57.
Demand follows work: Tuesday to Thursday fills up. Add December, when Mexicans living in the US pour back across the bridge, the long public holiday weekends, Holy Week, and the October nacho festival, which packs the centre for a weekend.
Getting there and around
The usual route is flying into San Antonio, Texas, renting a car and driving about two and a half hours to Eagle Pass and the bridge. From inside Mexico, Highway 57 links to Monclova (about three hours), Saltillo and Monterrey (about five). Piedras Negras has an airport, but with virtually no scheduled commercial flights — confirm before you plan around it.
There are two international bridges. Bridge I runs from downtown and handles pedestrians and private cars; Bridge II, further south, takes much of the commercial and truck traffic. Tolls are a few dollars. Southbound into Mexico is normally quick; northbound queues stretch on Sunday afternoons and public holidays.
If you're driving beyond the border strip — roughly 26 kilometres — you need your FMM tourist card and a temporary vehicle import permit, both handled at the bridge module. Do it unhurried and in daylight rather than at midnight after a long drive.
Downtown walks fine, but the rest of the city is spread out and built for cars. Taxis run about MX$60-120 a trip and ride-hailing coverage is patchy. On the open road, drive by day: Highway 57 is good, but rural stretches after dark aren't worth the gamble.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro, around the Plaza de Armas and a few blocks from International Bridge I, is the only genuinely walkable district. It suits you if you're crossing on foot, running paperwork or want to eat without driving. Hotels here are plainer and noisier by day; after dark the streets empty out considerably.
The boulevard corridor, with Manuel Pérez Treviño as its spine, plus the exits toward Highway 57 and the ring road, is where the business hotels sit: own parking, breakfast included, direct access to the industrial parks and maquiladoras. It's what most travellers actually book here, and for good reason.
The area near Bridge II works if you cross very early or move freight, but expect nothing within walking distance. Villa de Fuente and the southern colonias are residential and inconvenient without a car.

Supply is short, so when an industrial event lands on a holiday weekend, rooms vanish fast. Some travellers sleep on the Eagle Pass side instead; workable, but crossing twice a day eats your hours.
Eating and going out
Piedras Negras claims the nacho: in 1940 a head waiter named Anaya improvised fried tortillas with cheese and jalapeño for a group of visitors from Eagle Pass. The city marks it with a festival each October. There's no shrine worth the trip, but nachos appear on nearly every menu and locals tell the story with real pride.
What you eat well here is textbook northern Mexican: grilled beef, arrachera, flour tortillas made that morning, machacado con huevo for breakfast, gorditas and charcoal tacos. Downtown taquerías and the grill houses along the boulevards cover most dinners. A full meal runs roughly MX$150-250 a head; breakfast, considerably less.
Nightlife is modest and honest about it: a few bars along the boulevards, cold beer, kitchens that close early midweek. The centre livens up around the plaza at weekends and not much beyond that. If you want a long night out, this isn't the city — most people eat and turn in, or head across the river.
Dollars are accepted almost everywhere, but paying in pesos almost always works out better. Carry cash for taxis, bridge tolls and small stands, and don't assume every counter takes cards.
Booking well
Book ahead for Tuesday to Thursday stays: those are the high-occupancy nights for business travel, and with only a handful of hotels in town the options disappear sooner than you'd expect. Weekends generally leave more room to manoeuvre and better rates.
Confirm three things before paying: whether secure parking is included, the real distance to the bridge you intend to use, and check-in and check-out times. If you're crossing at dawn, tell the hotel; also ask whether they'll hold your room if the border queue delays your arrival.
