Terrible experience. There was no staff at the front desk at check in and check out. Tried calling over the phone with no answer. They were at the bar. The room was not well kept. Bad lighting. Dirty shower. The bathroom has no privacy at all. The safety box was closed and an alarm ringing. The staff said they didn't know what to do because "that had never happened before." Asked for a room change and there were no more rooms available, however the place was empty. Upon returning late at night, the box was still closed and the alarm was still going on. While the location is phenomenal, the location is truly pet-friendly and the staff is attentive, the toilet has no door or screen to cover it and the shower is transparent, which means that the (lack of) intimacy is more that of a 'love hotel' than the boutique hotel that MO17 purports to be. The breakfast menu consists of simple home-ccoked Mexican food, delivered well but late and inconsistently. I liked the place, but I did have higher expectations, especially for the price. When to go
Querétaro is dry and temperate all year: 1,820 metres, strong daytime sun, cool nights. June to September brings afternoon rain and a green countryside — it is also harvest season at the nearby vineyards, festivals included.
The price pattern is double: executive hotels drop at weekends, while the Centro rises on Saturdays with the Mexico City escape crowd. The annual peaks: Holy Week, long weekends and December.
For the quiet, cheap version of the city, aim for Tuesday-Thursday in the Centro or any weekend in the executive zone — the same trip, two different bills.
A cultural-calendar nuance: Querétaro's Christmas festivities — parades, monumental nativity scenes — and the city's July anniversary animate the Centro without saturating it: good dates to coincide with. The saturated exception is any long weekend with good weather, when half the capital drives up the highway.
Getting there and around
From Mexico City the practical route is the bus: departures every few minutes from Terminal Norte, about 3 hours for MX$300-450 at 2025 prices, arriving 10-15 minutes from the Centro. The airport sits 30-40 minutes out, taxi about MX$450-600; its route map grows yearly.
The Centro Histórico walks entirely — pedestrian andadores, chained plazas — and stays alive and watched at night. For Juriquilla and the industrial corridors, apps or a car.
The region is the argument for renting a car: Peña de Bernal 45-60 minutes away, the cheese-and-wine route through Tequisquiapan, and vineyards with tours and tastings. Without a car, day tours cover both classic routes well.
A transfer footnote: arriving from Mexico City by bus, get off at the Querétaro terminal and take a registered taxi with a prepaid desk ticket — about MX$80-120 to the Centro in 2025 — rather than hailing outside. Apps also work well from the terminal.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico is where a visitor should sleep: mansions turned boutique hotels around the Plaza de Armas and Jardín Zenea, with the walkways, arcades and restaurants on foot. Our 2026 scan put the city's typical rate at US$74 with entry from US$23 — colonial charm here costs less than in San Miguel, its famous neighbour.
Juriquilla, north, is the modern district of lakes, campuses and gated communities: new hotels, comfortable with a car, 25-35 minutes from the Centro. Useful for work or if your plan orbits the northern vineyards.
The 5 de Febrero corridor and industrial zone line up the executive chains that live off manufacturing Querétaro: practical, predictable, and of no touristic interest. The simple rule: tourism to the Centro, work to its corridor, and do not let 5 de Febrero's rush-hour traffic surprise you.
By profile: weekend escape from Mexico City, the Centro on the walkways; wine-and-cheese trip, the Centro as base or directly a vineyard hotel around Bernal-Tequisquiapan; work, the 5 de Febrero corridor or Juriquilla; family with a car, Juriquilla and its space. Querétaro's Centro is among the safest and best-kept in the country — walking it at night is part of the draw, not a concession.
A pin note: industrial-corridor addresses toward the airport read 'Querétaro' and sit 30-plus minutes from the andadores with nothing to walk to. If the trip is pleasure, keep the pin inside the historic grid.
Eating and going out
The Querétaro table mixes Bajío and capital: enchiladas queretanas, gorditas de migajas, guajolotes — the local night-time torta — and a fast-rising scene of restaurants in colonial courtyards. The market register — La Cruz, Escobedo — serves meals for about MX$70-130 in 2025.
Cheese and wine are the regional specialty: boards, tastings, and Centro shops that gather the route's producers. The summer harvest is the perfect excuse.
Nights belong to the andadores: 5 de Mayo and the blocks around the Plaza de Armas chain bars, mezcalerías and terraces until midnight, pitched at drinks and conversation more than clubs. On Saturdays the whole Centro is the capital crowd's moderate fiesta.
An evening tip: the Centro dines early by Mexican standards — many kitchens close at ten — while the walkway life runs to midnight on drinks. Book the table for eight and leave the stroll for after, not the other way round.

Local checks: the Centro's mansions carry the genre's traits — few rooms, stairs, bells — and hotels on the walkways hear Saturday's nightlife: interior room for light sleepers. Prices on this page are 2026 observations, per night; the live rate is in the widget.
Two regional notes: the route's vineyard hotels sell out harvest Saturdays (July-September) weeks ahead and cost double the Centro — decide early which side you sleep on.
