For a visitor the natural choice is the Centro — chained plazas, pedestrian lanes, and mansions turned hotels steps from the cathedral. The Avenida Carranza corridor and the Lomas district hold the executive hotels and chains, convenient with a car. Our 2026 scans logged 42 hotels with a real price: from US$23 a night and a typical rate of about US$75, with the classic business-city advantage of weekend rates. Honestly: many travellers use the city only as a gateway to the Huasteca Potosina, which lies 4-5 hours down the road — the Centro deserves at least one night of its own before you drive.

Where should I stay in San Luis Potosí?
In the Centro Histórico, near the Plaza de Armas or the Jardín de San Francisco: everything worth seeing is on foot and the boutique mansions set the trip's tone. Carranza and Lomas make sense for work or with a car. The industrial zone, only if your schedule demands it.
When is it cheapest to sleep here?
At weekends, when the executive hotels release rates: this is a business city and the corporate traveller leaves on Friday. Seasonally, the rainy summer softens prices. The Feria Nacional Potosina in August and Holy Week's Procession of Silence — famous across Mexico — are the peaks.
How do I get from the airport?
The airport lies north, 20-30 minutes from the Centro; a taxi or app ride runs about MX$250-400. The city is also a highway hub: frequent buses link it with Mexico City in around 5 hours, and with Guadalajara, Monterrey and the Bajío. The bus terminal is 10 minutes from the Centro.
What should I know before going?
That the Huasteca is not on the doorstep: Ciudad Valles, the base for the turquoise rivers and waterfalls, is 4-5 hours away on mountain roads. If that is the plan, sleep a night in the Centro and leave early. The capital, at 1,860 metres, is dry with cool nights — a different climate from the Huasteca's.
