About staying in Silao

Silao is a base rather than a destination, and a genuinely useful one. Guanajuato international airport (BJX) sits in this municipality, right beside the Puerto Interior industrial park, so most beds fill Tuesday to Thursday with people on plant visits or catching the first flight out. The other reason to come is Cristo Rey del Cubilete, the mountaintop monument some 20 winding kilometres above town. León and the city of Guanajuato are both about half an hour away. Our 2026 scans logged 13 hotels with a real price: from US$43 a night, with a typical from-price of about US$70. Small inventory — book midweek stays ahead.

Silao hotel FAQs

Where should I stay in Silao?

It depends why you came. For work or an early flight, the airport-Puerto Interior corridor along Federal Highway 45: business chains, parking, ten minutes from the terminal. Without a car, or if Cristo Rey is the plan, stay in the centre by the jardín principal, where hotels are cheaper and the market, the taco stands and the bus station are all on foot.

When are rooms cheapest?

Silao runs on business travel: Tuesday to Thursday occupancy rises and rates follow, while Friday to Sunday is usually the cheapest stretch of the week. The spikes come with León's fair in January, the Cervantino in Guanajuato in October, the balloon festival in November, and the Christ the King pilgrimage at the end of that same month.

How do I get in and get around without a car?

BJX airport is in the same municipality: authorised taxis charge zone fares, roughly MX$200-400 to town or Puerto Interior. The bus station has frequent departures to León, Guanajuato and Irapuato for something like MX$40-70. Around town, local taxis are cheap; ride-hailing apps are hit and miss, so keep a phone number handy for a 5am start.

How do you get up to Cristo Rey del Cubilete?

It is about 20 kilometres from the centre on a road that climbs to nearly 2,600 metres — forty minutes of curves. At weekends there is usually shared transport from the centre; midweek, plan on your own car or a taxi with waiting time agreed in advance. Go in daylight, take a jacket for the cold and wind at the top, and come down before dark.
