Most rooms are offered with free cancellation until a few days before arrival — the exact deadline is shown next to each rate before you pay. Every confirmed booking also removes a tonne of CO₂ through IMPT's carbon-removal projects, at no extra cost to you. When comparing, note that the three-star rating reflects the hotel's declared standard; the guest reviews on this page tell you how it actually feels to stay.
Silao for hotel guests
Guanajuato international airport (BJX) sits in this municipality, right beside the Puerto Interior industrial park, so most beds fill Tuesday to Thursday with people on plant visits or catching the first flight out. The other reason to come is Cristo Rey del Cubilete, the mountaintop monument some 20 winding kilometres above town. León and the city of Guanajuato are both about half an hour away. Our 2026 scans logged 13 hotels with a real price: from US$43 a night, with a typical from-price of about US$70. Small inventory — book midweek stays ahead. All hotels in Silao →

Wonderful Fairfield Inn near the BJX airport, 30 minutes to Guanajuato and 20 minutes to Leon. Very clean and great Mexican breakfast. We’ve stayed at this hotel twice now and likely plan to come back again for a future trip to San Miguel de Allende. There’s also a fantastic Japanese Restaurant beside the hotel which has great ramen.
Friendly staff. The rooms are Marriott quality. Breakfast really reduced. I don't think it's quite what it is in other Marriott hotels. Excellent location and several restaurants around.
Planning your trip to Silao
When to go
Silao sits at nearly 1,800 metres, and the altitude runs the weather. November to March brings dry, bright days around 22-25°C and nights dropping to five degrees or lower. Pack a jacket, and check your room has heating or at least proper blankets before you book.
April and May are hot and dusty: about 32°C at midday, no rain, white skies. From June to September afternoon storms arrive, short and heavy, greening the countryside and turning the Cubilete climb into a slow drive. None of it stops a trip — do the important things in the morning.
The events calendar matters more than the weather here. León's fair in January, the Cervantino in Guanajuato in October and the balloon festival in November fill the whole corridor, Silao included. Late November brings the Christ the King pilgrimage, when the mountain road clogs with buses and vans.
Getting there and around
Guanajuato international airport (BJX) lies in Silao municipality, ten to fifteen minutes from the centre and next door to Puerto Interior. Authorised taxis work on zone fares, roughly MX$200-400 depending on where you are going, and the car rental desks are inside the terminal.
By road, León is 35-40 km away and the city of Guanajuato 25-30 km on the Silao-Guanajuato highway, about half an hour either way. Irapuato is similar, Querétaro around two hours, Mexico City four to five hours via the 45D and the 57.
The bus station runs frequent departures to León, Guanajuato and Irapuato for something like MX$40-70. Local taxis are cheap and ride apps come and go. Driving at night, stick to the toll road and the airport route, and skip the Cubilete climb and rural back roads after dark.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Most of the useful hotels line the airport-Puerto Interior axis along Federal Highway 45: business chains with breakfast, a desk, parking and sometimes an airport shuttle if you ask when booking. No charm, nothing within walking distance, but they do the job for a 6am flight or a factory meeting.
The centre is a proper small town: the jardín principal, the Santiago Apóstol parish church, the market, taco stands. The cheapest and most local hotels are here, and everything is walkable. In exchange, rooms are plain and the plaza gets loud at weekends. It is the better base for Cristo Rey.
Out on the Guanajuato road, near the Parque Guanajuato Bicentenario, a few scattered options make sense only if your business is an event there. The honest alternative: pure sightseers should sleep in Guanajuato or León. Silao wins when the airport, the plant or the mountain dictates the schedule.
Eating and going out
Food here is cheap, good and unfussy. Around the jardín and inside the municipal market you find breakfasts, enchiladas mineras, weekend carnitas, gorditas and broths. A set lunch runs somewhere around MX$80-120, and evening tacos perhaps MX$15-25 each, served early rather than late.
In the industrial corridor the picture changes: hotel dining rooms and highway chains, handy if you land late on a weeknight, but they close early and there is nothing around them. With a car, thirty minutes puts you at dinner in León or in the state capital.
Nightlife, in the bars-and-music sense, is not Silao's thing; the town shuts down early. León's centre has more going on, and Guanajuato has its callejoneadas and old cantinas. Work out the drive back before you go, or plan to sleep over there that night.
Booking well
Our 2026 scans found 13 hotels with a real price in Silao: from US$43 a night, with a typical from-price of about US$70. That is a shallow pool, and it changes how you book — Tuesday to Thursday the good ones fill with work travellers and whatever remains costs more.
Weekends loosen up and availability appears, which is exactly when to come for Cubilete. Conversely, when León or Guanajuato host a fair or a festival, Silao absorbs the overflow and rates climb toward capital-city levels. Compare before assuming this is automatically the cheaper place to sleep.
Confirm three things in writing: 24-hour reception if you arrive at midnight or leave on the first flight, whether there is an airport shuttle and at what times, and secure parking. Ask the real distance to your Puerto Interior gate too — the park is large and 7am traffic is real.
