4.391 reviewsWe originally booked the junior suite, but once we saw the room we actually downgraded to a standard king which was quieter and cleaner. The suite was very large but had a small tired looking bathroom and the furniture was stained and overall the room didn’t feel clean. Also as it has a thatched roof so you could hear lots of traffic noise from the main road. Once we changed rooms it was quieter and even though much smaller it was cleaner and seemed more updated. The staff were friendly and we loved seeing the dogs everyday. Sadly there is construction going on across the road and it’s extreme…
Rooms were clean, but sparsely decorated. The complementary coffee in the morning was nice. However, no restaurant was in walking distance. The pool is very small and basically a decorative feature to the lobby.
Unfortunately, we didn't realize the location of the hotel before we arrived which is in the northeast end of Bacalar. If you are not travelling by car, it's not the best option. You can walk from the ADO station if you have a backpack. With normal luggage you need a taxi due to the unpaved 'streets' to the hotel. We rented bikes in the city which made it much easier to move between hotel and city center. The hotel itself is small and cozy with friendly staff but nothing special. Currently there are lots of trucks passing the main street due to the Maya train construction works. You can hear t…
Planning your trip to Bacalar
Everything in Bacalar orbits the seven-colour lagoon, and the key question is how close to the water you sleep. The lagoon-front hotels — along the Costera avenue, south of the fort — charge for their private docks: waking up and swimming in turquoise water is precisely what you pay for. The centre, by the San Felipe fort and the plaza, drops the price and keeps the lagoon a few minutes' walk away. Out by the federal highway sit the cheapest beds. Our 2026 scans logged 34 hotels with a real price: from US$27 a night and a typical rate of about US$114 — the private dock explains the spread. Honestly: Bacalar is a town, not a resort — quiet nights, cash first — and the lagoon is a fragile ecosystem: the stromatolites that make it unique survive neither sunscreen nor footsteps.
