Perfect location to rest and settle. Best beaches are on this side (East Side). Easy walking distance to the centre for dinner. Peaceful at night. Buffet style breakfast could do with some tweaks, but other than that it was perfect for what we needed 🙏
This was our third time in Holbox, but first time staying at Blue Holbox. Overall our experience was great! We stayed in an Oceanfront suite, which was beautiful, with a great view, comfortable bed (a little on the firmer side), and nice, simple amenities, like a mini-fridge and large rain shower. Our only issue with the room, was the AC struggled to cool our room well. We were in the second floor unit, which has an A Frame cathedral ceiling, which is beautiful, but probably is the reason why it struggled to cool the room well. The location is excellent, and the sea-facing rooms are truly lovely. However, there are several reasons why I wouldn’t choose to stay here again: 1. Reception Experience: Upon arrival, the receptionist insisted that we hadn’t paid for our reservation and demanded payment again. Only after we showed proof of payment from our bank did he bother to check their records—at which point it became clear that the payment information on their side hadn’t been updated. The centre, by the ferry dock, holds the budget hotels, the restaurants and what little bustle exists. Westward toward Punta Cocos and eastward toward Punta Mosquito the beach opens up and the boutique hotels appear, hammocks strung over the water — pricier and quieter. Our 2026 scans logged 47 hotels with a real price: from US$38 a night and a typical rate of about US$92. Honestly: getting here takes effort — two and a half hours from Cancún plus a ferry — mosquitoes and sandflies show up the moment it rains, nearly everything is paid in cash, and when the island fills, its services strain. That is the price of slow paradise.
