Where should I stay in Lázaro Cárdenas?
In the Centro, on or near Avenida Lázaro Cárdenas, if you arrive by bus and want banks, food and terminals within reach — ask for an interior room, because the avenue is loud. If your meeting is at the port or in the industrial zone, pick a hotel with parking on the Isla del Cayacal side. For sea air, sleep in Playa Azul, roughly 25 km away.
When are rooms cheapest?
Our 2026 scans found rooms from US$36 and a typical rate of about US$69 across only 5 hotels: thin supply, little price competition. Demand here is industrial rather than touristic, so Tuesday to Thursday is the tightest and priciest stretch, and Friday to Sunday loosens up. Holy Week and the year-end holidays squeeze the beach hotels, not the city ones.
How do I get there and get around?
The local airport (LZC) has very patchy service, so the practical route is flying into Zihuatanejo (ZIH) and covering about two hours on Highway 200, or taking a bus from Uruapan and Morelia on Highway 37, which climbs through the sierra and is slow. In town, shared vans and city buses run about MX$12-15, and short taxi hops MX$60-120.
Is there a beach in the city?
Not in town — this is an industrial port at the mouth of the Balsas River. The closest beach is Playa Azul, some 25 km northwest: a small town with modest hotels, seafood palapas and heavy surf with a real undertow, so swim with care. With a car, Caleta de Campos is around two hours up Highway 200 and considerably prettier.
