Check the slope: an address 600 metres away can mean hauling luggage up cobblestones. With limited mobility, favour the flat streets near the Jardín.
When is it cheapest and most expensive?
Midweek is notably cheaper: the town lives on weekend escapes and Saturday weddings. The peaks are Holy Week, Independence celebrations in September — the big local fiesta — Day of the Dead, and December. The softest stretch: late January to March and the rainy summer.
How do I get to San Miguel?
There is no airport of its own. The usual route is flying to León-Guanajuato (BJX), ninety minutes away, with shared shuttles about US$30-40 per person, or to Querétaro (QRO), an hour and a quarter. From Mexico City, the direct bus takes around 4 hours for about MX$500-700.
